The Liberty Bell: an important symbol of freedom

The Liberty Bell, with its distinctive crack, has long been one of the important symbols of freedom and liberty in the United States.

This 4th of July, imagine the tolling of the bell to proclaim liberty through the land! Listen to hear what it might have sounded like!

About the bell

The bell is located in the city of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania at the Liberty Bell Center and it is one of the major attractions along with many other National Historic Landmarks.

The crack was not always there, but was noticed sometime in the early 19th century. There are several stories about how and why the crack formed, and it was recast and repaired until a second crack developed. That is when the bell was silenced.

This iconic symbol of the American spirit of freedom has been used for many purposes over the years and was even on tour throughout the country in earlier years.

Now the Liberty Bell rests, but it will always remain a symbol of liberty for everyone in our country!

Where is your American Spirit?

On this Memorial Day I want to ask everyone to show their American Spirit. I have heard different opinions about how patriotism isn’t as strong as it once was.

My own children were taught to think that the United States of America is a bully, going around the world taking over and getting involved in everyone’s business. They weren’t taught the reason why.

What is the American Spirit?

Simply put: to be free

Many people around the world would love to be free of oppressive governments and dictators. Over the past 240 years we have developed a great military with which to defend ourselves and help those who seek freedom.

But freedom comes at a price. Brave men and women have paid that price with their lives.

As we remember and honor those who have fallen and lost their lives serving the USA, please pay particular attention to the importance of not letting that fade from your memory.

How do you show your American Spirit?

What are the symbols of the American Spirit of Freedom? There are many, and can be incorporated into any fashion:

  • The colors red, white and blue
  • Stars
  • Display the flag
  • Lady Liberty
  • The Liberty Bell
  • The Eagle

On this Memorial Day I will show my spirit and be somber, in honor of those we lost and in contemplation of the loss of more lives defending our flag and our right to be free people.

Whether you lean to the left, lean to the right or just stand straight, please remember that brave soldiers lost their lives so that you could stand wherever you want.

Make an extra effort to be proud of our country.

Pay respect to the souls of brave men and women who died protecting our flag, our country and our freedom.
